Theory and design of systems for treating industrial and municipal wastewater and potable water supplies. Methods for characterizing wastewater properties. Physical, chemical, and biological processes, including primary treatment, and suspended growth and fixed-film methods for secondary treatment. Nutrient removal. Reactor design and process kinetics. State-of-the-art processes. Sludge processing and disposal.
LAYMAN’s Guidebook on how Develop a Small Hydro Site.pdf
Taken from Definition of small hydropower: There is no consensus in EU member states on the definition of small hydropower: Some countries like Portugal, Spain, Ireland, and now, Greece and Belgium, accept 10 MW as the upper limit for installed capacity. In Italy the limit is fixed at 3 MW (plants with larger installed power should sell their electricity at lower prices); in France the limit was established at 8 MW and UK favour 5 MW. Hereunder will be considered as small any scheme with an installed capacity of 10 MW or less. This figure is adopted by five member states, ESHA, the European Commission and UNIPEDE (International Union of Producers and Distributors of Electricity).
Bridge Detailing Manual.pdf
Taken from definitions:
bridge - A bridge is a single span structure of over 20 feet, measured from face to face of
abutments, or multiple span structures of over 20 feet (including multiple box culverts,
measured between inside of end walls along the centerline of structure). Batteries of pipe
culverts, regardless of their length, are not bridges.
culverts - Culverts are those drainage structures not defined as bridges
highway underpass - A highway underpass is a grade separation where the subject (funding) highway passes under an intersecting highway (also called a Highway Undercrossing)
highway overpass - A highway overpass is a grade separation where the subject (funding) highway passes over an intersecting highway (also called a Highway Overcrossing)
railroad underpass - A railroad underpass is a grade separation where a highway passes
under an intersecting railroad (also called a Railroad Undercrossing)
railroad overpass - A railroad overpass is a grade separation where a highway passes over an intersecting railroad (also called a Railroad Overcrossing)
pedestrian underpass - A pedestrian underpass is a grade separation where a highway passes under an intersecting pedestrian walkway
stream crossing - A stream crossing is a location where the subject highway passes over an
intersecting waterway
Engineering and Design Geodetic and Control Surveying (EM 1110-1-1004).pdf
This manual covers the use of engineering surveying techniques for establishing and/or extending project construction control. Accuracy requirements, standards, measurement procedures, calibrations, horizontal and vertical datum transformations, data reduction and adjustment methods, and engineering surveying techniques are outlined. The primary focus of this manual is on conventional (i.e., non-GPS) horizontal and vertical survey techniques using traditional ground survey instruments–transits, theodolites, levels, electronic total stations, etc. Typically, conventional survey techniques include traverse, triangulation, trilateration, and differential leveling.
