Hydrodinamics of Pumps.pdf

Taken from Abstract: The subject of this monograph is the fluid dynamics of liquid turbomachines, particularly pumps. Rather than attempt a general treatise on turbomachines, we shall focus attention on those special problems and design issues associated with the flow of liquid through a rotating machine. There are two characteristics of a liquid that lead to these special problems, and cause a significantly different set of concerns than would occur in, say, a gas turbine. These are the potential for cavitation and the high density of liquids that enhances the possibility of damaging unsteady flows and forces.

The Thermodynamics of Phase Equilibrium.pdf

Taken from Introduction: This paper is the first in a series in which thermodynamics is developed beyond its usual scope from a new postulational basis. The postulational basis of classical thermodynamics is firmly established in tradition and a new departure calls for an explanation of the underlying ideas. It is widely believed that thermodynamics consists essentially of the implications of the first, second, and third law of thermodynamics. Actually, however, few if any significant results can be derived from these postulates without using a number of additional assumptions concerning the properties of material systems, such as the existence of homogeneous phases, validity of equations of state and the like.

Ductility Design of Foundations of Highway Bridge Abutments.pdf

Taken from Abstract: Ductility design of foundations of abutments against severe earthquakes as been newly introduced in the Specifications for Highway Bridges in Japan. This paper describes the summary of the ductility design method as well as its background. One of the features of this method is the adoption of a new procedure to evaluate seismic active earth pressure that is applicable up to high seismic loads based on the modified Mononobe-Okabe method. We also conduct back-analyses of the case histories of abutments including foundations damaged in the past earthquakes following the ductility design method proposed here. The results from the back-analyses confirm the applicability of the ductility design method.

Introduction to Echocardiography and Introduction to Doppler are the acclaimed monographs produced for beginners to get a quick overview of echo and Doppler. This easily understood series, originally published by Medi-Cine and distributed by Ciba-Geigy in the America’s and ICI elsewhere in the world, has been a popular starting place for physicians, sonographers and other allied health professionals to understand the basics of these modalities. A part of this series won an award for medical education from the British Medical Association.
