Taken from Introduction: The dynamic motion of farm tractors is very complex. For only the consideration of plane motion, the knowledge of the moment of inertia suffices. For an analysis of the three dimensional motion of the tractor, however all components of inertia tensor may be of importance. In some instances when the roll, pitch and yaw motions are combined, moments and products of inertia can be useful in solving problems of ride vibration, overturning or tractor simulation as well as solving problem of stability when a tractor is coupled with an auxiliary implement. Thus knowledge of the inertia tensor is essential for the further study of tractor dynamic behavior.

When the inertia tensor of tractor for any position in space is known, it is possible to find out analytically the arbitrary component of the tensor for any other position of the tractor.

The inertia tensor of a tractor has been established on the assumption that a tractor is a rigid body symmetrical to the plane fixed by the axis x and 2 of a Cartesian coordinate system with its origin in the centre of mass of the tractor. A real tractor is not strictly symmetrical to the XZ plane, nevertheless almost all tractors have their centre of mass in or very close to the mentioned plane.

A tractor is assembled from a great number of parts of irregular shapes and unhomogeneous masses of which the analytical determination of moments and products of inertia is very difficult, and they should therefore be decided experimentally.
