Toyota Celica is powered by either the 4A-FE inline 4 cylinder 1.6 DOHC 16 valve engine, 3S-GTE inline 4 cylinder 2.0L DOHC 16 valve or 5S-FE inline 4 cylinder 2.2L DOHC 16 valve engine.

The Celica’s transaxle are available in manual: C52 Transaxle/2WD and S53 Transaxle/2WD which are composed constant mesh synchronizer for forward gears, and sliding mesh reverse gear and E150F Transaxle/4WD that has been compactly designed by arranging the transmission, the center differential, the front differential and the transfer on the same quadruple case axle. While the automatic Transaxle are available either A241 E and A243L with 4 speed transaxle with a lock-up mechanism developed exclusive for the New Celica that are Electronically Controlled Transaxle (ECT) and are based on the A240L A/T.
